Celebrating the life of
John Joseph Peebles
February 04, 1965 - April 12, 2025
John Joseph Peebles was born on February 4, 1965, in Erie, PA, in the middle of a lake-effect snowstorm—a fitting start for someone who would weather life’s ups and downs with resilience and heart.
After a divorce, John moved to Savannah, GA, in 1989, where he met the love of his life, Lorretta, at Tim’s Billiards and Burgers. They built a beautiful life together, sharing 31 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
John was the son of Virginia B. Peebles and the late John T. Peebles (2015). He was also blessed with a loving stepmother, Shirley Peebles. He is survived by his sister, Darlene A. Nerich, and her daughter, Desiree Killian (James), as well as his brother, Michael Peebles (Liana) and their son, Jesse Peebles. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold A. Peebles (2024), and his brother-in-law, Thomas A. Nerich Jr. (2019).
John was a proud and loving husband to Lorretta Peebles and a devoted father to their son, Dakota Peebles. He was also a beloved son-in-law to the late Gary M. Andrews(2007). His grand-niece and nephew, Bailey and Luke Killian, brought him great joy.
John grew up as a Navy brat, moving up and down the East Coast and even spending time in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. His adventurous spirit was shaped by those early years, and he carried that sense of curiosity and adaptability throughout his life.
John’s career journey was as unique as he was. He started at Tim's Billiards and Burgers where he met his wife while working in the construction industry with the Shop Workers & Carpenters Union, but a life-changing accident forced him to shift paths. He spent many years driving a cab, where he found joy in meeting new people and hearing their stories. Everyone he met in life was as if he had known them forever, like a long lost friend to catch up with. In recent years, he discovered a newfound passion in the food truck industry where his wife was working as a cashier. He dedicated his time and energy to the beloved Naked Dog and Naked Cone food trucks owned by Patsy and Jim Hood. He had come full circle, working happily beside his wife until an injury left her permanently disabled.
Patsy and Jim were family to him, his people, and he loved them so much. He always said, “They're my family, they are just like us!!!” He lived for the jokes and laughter…it made him happy. He would always tell his wife, “Bare it and we'll share it!!” Little did we know it had a deeper meaning for him. The love for his job and those around him was unsurpassed.
John was a man of many passions. He loved woodworking, motorcycles, old trucks, classic rock & country music—anything he could tinker with. Despite building a life in the South, his heart always held a special place for Northwestern Pennsylvania, and he dreamed of returning one day.
Above all else, John was a man who put others first. He would be the first to lend a helping hand, the first to offer support, and the first to give—sometimes even his last dollar—if he thought it would make a difference. He just couldn't stand to see people struggling, he had to help. His generosity, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 13, 2025, at 5:00 PM at Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel.
John’s wife and son would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the patience, understanding, generosity, and love shown to them during this time.
Rest easy now, John. We love you.
Your work is done.
